The Wolf River both naturally meanders and flows through
engineered channels on its long trip from Northern Mississippi to
the Mississippi River just North of downtown Memphis. There are
numerous access locations for a wide variety of paddling. These
include LaGrange, Moscow, Rossville, Piperton, Collierville, Germantown,
and Kennedy Park, among others.
The most highly touted stretch of the Wolf River is
definitely the "Ghost River" section between LaGrange
and Moscow, Tennessee. Each of these access points are discussed
on the Wolf
River Conservancy page with some details about trip options.
There are now two outfitters that will rent canoes
or run a shuttle for you. You can also rent canoes from Outdoors,
Inc. in Memphis. You can find details about all of the outfitters
here.
Since I have only paddled the "Ghost River"
section, that is the one that will be highlighted here.
