| DESTINATIONS - McKellar Lake |
|

If you absolutely have to get out on the water but don't have much
time, McKellar Lake might do. We have been out to McKellar Lake in
search of a short paddle after work during the longer daylight hours
of late summer and had a decent time. While this is far from the wildlife
refuges of the area, the industrial feel is an interesting change.
It is a pretty big lake, so you could paddle for hours if you want
to, just watch out for barges and other boats. |

The only place I know to put-in is at the marina in Martin Luther
King Riverside Park south of downtown. From I-55, take the Mallory
Ave exit and drive west towards the refinery gate. Just before reaching
the gate, make a slight right and drive uphill into the park. Follow
this main road north until reaching the marina.
